The Kyung Hee University graduate program officially began in 1954 with receipt of permission for construction of the graduate school. The first step of Kyung Hee's graduate program began with its Department of Law and Department of English and English Literature, each department consisting of 10 Master's degree students. Two years later, on March 25, 1956 Kyung Hee held its first graduation ceremony. And in 1959, Doctoral programs in Law and also in Political Science were established. Since then Kyung Hee's graduate program has grown to include over 90 graduate majors as of March, 2014. In the past half-century the Kyung Hee University Graduate Program has repeatedly seen quantum leaps in development both in quality and quantity, awarding some 7,041 Doctorate degrees, 21,010 Master's Degrees, and 216 Honorary Doctorate degrees. As of March of 2014, including Masters and Doctoral candidates, Kyung Hee University boasts over 3,200 actively enrolled students.
Kyung Hee University received top marks for its graduate division in the 1995 comprehensive university evaluation. Always in pursuit of better quality research, Kyung Hee University is actively involved in collaborations with: The Korean Institute of Science and Technology, The Korean Food and Drug Administration, The Korean Institute of Oriental Medicine, The Korean Institute of Industrial Technology, The Korean Atomic Energy Research Institute , KT&G Central Research Center, The National Environmental Research Center, The Korean Astronomy and Space Institute, The Rural Development Administration, The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The Korean Bio-Science Research Institute, The Korean Electronics Component Research Center, The Korean Railroad Research Institute, The Korean Forest Research Center, The Korean Institute of Chemical Technology, The Korean Environmental Policy Research Institute, The Korean Institute of Radiology and Medical Sciences and others. Kyung Hee university also puts forth great effort to provide top quality administrative services. And Kyung Hee University's Student Union, Academic Council, student newspaper, etc. display forward thinking with regard to student life and student activities.
In 2011 our world class College of Liberal Arts launched its 'College of Humanities' and the work of the Kyung Hee Global Society Volunteer Organization set forth a new paradigm in social responsibility. At the same time, master plans for campus construction improvements officially broke ground. Thus the progressive visage of Kyung Hee University continually manifests itself in increasingly tangible ways. As we go forward, the professors, employees, and students of Kyung Hee University's Graduate Studies Program will continue to strive to contribute to the nation's hopes and to be leaders in the global village.
